Harrison Bankston’s Journey into the RV Business
Harrison Bankston, originally an engineer at Teledyne Brown, entered the RV business in an unconventional way. Along with his business partner, he purchased an RV and rented it out for weekends, using the income to cover their costs. This arrangement allowed them to enjoy the RV themselves on other weekends. Through his own RVing experiences and hearing stories from his rental customers, Mr. Bankston’s passion for RVing was ignited, leading to the establishment of Bankston Motor Homes in 1970. His dedication to helping others experience the joys of RVing and offering exceptional customer service to support each customer's adventures.
Bankston Motor Homes quickly grew, starting with motorhomes, travel trailers, and truck camper slide-ins. Mr. Bankston’s personal RVing experience and dedication to collaborating with manufacturers and customers resulted in him working closely with a new motorhome startup in Alabama, Tiffin Motor Homes. Mr. Bankston worked closely with Bob Tiffin, providing product feedback and assuring him, "If you can build them, we can sell them." Bankston Motor Homes went on to become the first Tiffin Motor Homes dealer in 1972. Bankston Motor Homes continued to expand over the years and now operates three super centers located in Huntsville, AL, Gadsden, AL, and Ardmore, TN.
A Legacy of Family Ownership
Bankston Motor Homes holds the distinction of being one of the largest family-owned and operated RV businesses in Alabama. Dedicated to continuing this family legacy, Chase Baerlin and Colin Baerlin, grandsons of Mr. Bankston, acquired ownership of Bankston Motor Homes in 2021. For over 10 years, Chase (President) and Colin (Vice President) held various valued positions within the business. From working in Service and IT to serving as Sales Manager, they gained vital experience necessary to uphold the legacy of selling high-quality RVs while providing exceptional customer service. Over 10 members of Mr. Bankston’s family work to ensure a deep understanding of the company's values and a commitment to maintaining its standards.
